Crucifixion Drawing for Saint Bede’s Box

preliminary drawing of the crucifixion for the painted panels of the Saint Bede’s Box project.

I am leaning heavily on Gruenwald for this drawing of the crucifixion scene. This image will be transferred to a wooden panel for oil painting.

  1. Thank you, Jack, for this alluring image.

I’m admiring the image to the right– John the Baptist complete with the means of his martyrdom: sword to the neck.

I’ll need to go back the Gruenwald to compare details of both images.

i recognize your style– with your characteristic banners and animagic cherubim.

    Wondrous.

    1. Thank you so much, Byron, for your comment. I am gratified to have you identify these elements of “my” style. I am particularly excited about the character of John the Baptist in this image. In addition to the famous Isenheim Altarpiece, there is another identified as “Christ on the Cross with Mary and Saint John”, housed in the Staatliche Kunsthalle, in Karlsruhe, Germany, which I particularly like.
