Carved Rail for a Frame

Below are some pictures of the carved bottom rail of frame for an oil painting.  The carving, in process, features two ring necked pheasants, as well as the subject’s name, and a few other decorative elements yet to be executed.

    1. Yaakov, My father, first started teaching me to carve faces on pencils and sticks, when I was about five or six, with a pocket knife. He taught me some fundamentals of relief carving when I was young and then I have learned other things over the years. My granddad was also a carver and I spent a lot of time with him in his shop as a boy. More recently, I have learned a lot about efficiency from observing how Peter Follansbee works.
