Triticale and winter peas in the rain. #farm #smallfarm #regenerativeagriculture #redemptiveagriculture “The Stone Hefter” is a little wood engraving I made in the spring of 2020. When I first read about Trappist monks as a young man, they were carrying stones to make a wall for their sanctuary. Carrying those stones was their wordless prayer and their silent contemplation. It resonated so deeply with my heart. My silent continuous prayer ever since has been “Jesus, make the work of my hands into a prayer”, His answer back when I despair or falter, or even when it’s flowing, is a powerfully gentle, “Go on”. All my work is about this dynamic in a way- but this one sort of essentializes it. I’m printing a second edition of this fellow. He seemed to be saying something to people. #woodengraving #art #printmaking #spiritualart #prayer #reliefprint I noticed this dung beetle packing up some sheep manure yesterday morning. It is a beautiful sight. #dungbeetle #smallfarm. #nature #dungbeetle “A Man Walks Into A Clearing” Two or maybe even three years ago, my friend @sethwieck asked me to make a group of communion chalices and a patten for his family to practice and remember and enter into the body and blood of Christ. There would be four cups, representing four Old Testament covenants that God had made with men: Adam, Noah, Abraham and Moses. (I’m starting to recognize how these patterns, these repetitions are a way of living in the eternal, though I couldn’t explain it). Seth put one of the most overwhelming requests in my lap that I have ever taken up. I struggled and what came out was much more simple than what I envisioned - and I still struggle with how they came out. It’s so hard to make things when you know there is no way to get it “right”- and yet the interesting converse is that there is most likely no way of getting it wrong, short of not trying at all and allowing poor workmanship. The cups and plates are finally in Seth’s patient hands and I pray, please God may they bring the blessing of Your goodness and presence. #sacredcraft #sacredart #woodcarving #woodwork #communion #covenant #making Noah’s cup. #woodworking #communion #eucharist #covenant #noah #woodcarving #art Abraham’s cup. #woodworking #woodcarving #woodturning #communion #eucharist #art #covenant Work in progress- painting of a scene from the the book of Revelation. #art #painting #oilpainting #revelation #spiritualart
