Hello Jack, I tried to leave a comment, but I think I didn’t save it… I am overwhelmed by this body of drawings. I need to sit with them for much longer before I can gather some worthy words, but what is coming to me now is “anointed”. The drawing of Eve… my goodness it is beautiful. I love that she is clothed in her hair, like an old, ancient glory. Truly, your work is such a gift to experience. Thank you for putting it here on your website with context.
Thank you for this comment, and for your kind attention and words regarding my drawings. I am glad that you like them and that you discern in them some level of vestedness by God. I would be grateful to hear more of your thoughts- if the words come.
Ok, I’m back with some words! The Earth Sangreal drawing has perhaps been my visio divina for Lent. First, I am truly in wonder at the image of the earth as a cosmic holy cup. I’ve always thought a lot about the idea of Christ eating the “apple” (or whatever the fruit on the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil was) to its core, like taking all of our humanity into Himself. When I saw this drawing, I immediately thought of the last supper, when He drinks the cup, the cup of His suffering… and I think of Him drinking it in all its fullness in His suffering on the cross. Not just our “sin”, but actually taking all suffering of the whole cosmos into Himself. In your drawing, I also see the roots of the earth sangreal as a crown of thorns. I also love the way Light is filling the cup, and that light illuminates the way/path through the landscape… the way we are to go.
I love this! Thank you for making your work accessible online. I’m grateful you share your gifts.
Kim,
Thank you for taking the time to come back with your thoughts. Your idea of Christ eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil to it’s core reminds me of John Moriarty’s concept of Jesus taking on the whole worlds Karma and how his path across the Kedron turns into the bright angel trail going all the way back to the mesozoic.
and yes it seems that he is taking on more than just our sin- we’ve been limited to that for a long time it feels like. -at least I have.
As always Jack… wow! What an amazing body of work you’re developing
Holy amazement!
Mindsoul-blowing in fact
