Some Drawings about Mary Magdalene

from the Diary of a Tree Standing On Its Head

Mary anointing the feet of Jesus. I find myself, in my heart seeing Mary of Bethany and Mary Magdalene as one Mary- incidentally I also see them as Eve.

  1. Hmmmmm … and I’d say that the ‘three Marys’, find their meaning/Vocation in relation to the Blessed Mother, ‘the God Bearer’ … And ” if you willing to accept it” she is Holy Lady Wisdom, who is …” daily His delight,
        rejoicing before Him always,
     rejoicing in His inhabited world
and delighting in the sons of men” (Pro. 8;31-31) … even at the foot of the Cross.

The same who is The Church, the Bride who is bearing the face of Christ into the World.

I quite like the ‘exorcized images’ that are worked into your design Jack: … The Hindu goddess Lakshmi and even the Greek Medusa. What high irony: … the Magdalene, out of whom 7 demons were cast, who’s hair is now intricately woven into the very Passion at the foot of the One true suffering God … and irony of irony, will be the first to harald his Resurrection from Death itself.

“Oh Happy Fault that has given us such a Saviour” … and, ” the New Jerusalem {Eve}, a free woman, who is our Mother” (Gal 4:26).

Yes … “Walking Man”/humanity is so intricately involved in such a holy weaving.

    Happy Feast of Guadalupe

    1. fr Will, Thank you most kindly for your resonant insights. I like very much what you call the “exorcized images, and I am willing to accept Holy Lady Wisdom. I am never at all certain what I am aiming for in any particular work/ image. But many ideas and associations swirl- and always some hope of revelation or communion- but I am always hungry for the insights of another, who is willing to take some time to help me to see more. It is a holy weaving.

  2. Thanks Jack

Yup the Kingdom of God is the weaving: a wholly/holy complex of divine complicity … of a divine tapestry of tragedy : God & Man creating a “Felix Culpa”.

The (“B”) Beauty of ‘Art’ is that it invites the ‘creature’ into the PRAYER of the Creator’s journey: …. “The Glory of God is Man Truly Alive {Beautiful}”

Ahhh … and yes, you’ve reminded me. I had some thoughts re: a ‘projection’ onto your Br. Lawrence piece. I’ll go there an file a comment.
