Beautiful post, Jack. Every image imbued with the sense of undertaking daily labour with grace, and a real sense of the creative not just in art and craft, but in every moment lived well.
Thank you, Clive. There are many moments to live, I hope I live them well, but in truth… many of them not so much. I know that every moment is sacred, whether I acknowledge it or not- even the painful ones, maybe especially the painful ones. Now, this little owlet fell from his home in my friend’s barn, and was orphaned by his parents. so I helped to get him safely captured and stowed for a trip to the great plains raptor center. He is utterly fascinating to look at. On the ground there he looks like a character from the Dark Crystal.
Is the owl an orphan or an injured youngster you’ve taken in to rear? I think were I there, I would never stop drawing it!
What an incredible post! Is that naturally shaped window trimming inside your house? Are the bees off the side of your barn? Is that a little owl chick that lost its way? Your music and photographs are good for the heart to hear and see. Hope you are well.
Thanks, Mikey. The window is in Cody’s house. We did a whole room with natural edge trim around the windows. It is pretty cool, but really hard to photograph. The bees are from a beekeeper I am learning from nearby, he was showing me a top-bar hive with fresh comb filling up with honey. The owlet was a resident in my friend, Brian’s barn. They have a nesting pair that have their babies there every year, and they watch them grow up. This one got abandoned for some reason. But he found a home at the great plains raptor center. I am doing well, but it is a windy prairie madness spring.
plenty of light and life !
Mighty thanks, wakametamago.
Seeing these this morning from downtown Toronto makes my heart ache with the beauty of what you depict. Excellent photographs. Beautiful documentation. Every moment alive with labour and care. Thank you Jack.
