Below in an essay of photos is the cherry and walnut (red cedar, maple, and white oak as well) hope chest assembled, sanded, and awaiting hardware and finishing.

Milling Lumber
We milled a large quantity of black walnut, red cedar, and green ash with a neighbor and his band-saw mill earlier this summer. Below are a few photos of our operation.
Some of the logs piled in the field.
Slabbing off a decent quality and sized black walnut log…
some of the boards 25″ wide…
some lead slugs from deep in one of the 100 plus year old red-cedars…
the slugs, still in the tree…
A hay loft full of lumber, almost everything was plain-sawn into boards and slabs from 4/4 up to a few 6″ slabs, all with natural edges remaining.

Wooden Bowls at the Onion Tree
Thanks to Bridgit Yinger, the Onion Tree in Wichita, Kansas is now carrying some of my bowls for sale.
Tree Carving
I have begun the carving on the main front panel of a cherry and walnut hope chest. This carving is in cherry and features a shallow relief of a stylised tree.
Below is a gratuitous workshop picture with a goofy three-legged stool I turned out this week. The carved panel is held to the bench with hold-fasts.
