The Ascent of Maclura pomifera

Spiral stair in Hedge (Maclura pomifera, bodark, bois d’ark, osage orange). Designed by my friend Cody to join a 100 year old barn basement to the floor above. The barn, just outside of Fall River, got hit by a twister about 4-5 years ago and is now being rebuilt as a workshop and living quarters. The stair isn’t officially finished, we already have a list of things we want to change, but this is it in it’s first state.

Spoons in Pear and Walnut

A few images of some recently completed spoons. Two are pear with relief carving and one is a smooth finished figured walnut. All three are for sale here.

The Land Speaks

From the Song of the Ancient, here is a small turned and carved vessel in black walnut and osage orange. The idea isn’t fully formed or unified, but it is advancing. As the yellow osage wood ages it will turn a deep red-orange, nearly as dark as the walnut.

Luminous Earth

Those of you who are regular visitors know I have been slowly overhauling the pages here at The School of the Transfer of Energy. If you are new, know you know too. There are still some pages to rebuild, but for the latest, please take a few moments to visit the new Painting page. This has been perhaps the most personally interesting page to remake.
