Shaping and Turning a Billet of Walnut

Using a hatchet to chop away the sap wood on a billet of walnut.

Shaping the billet on the shaving horse with drawknife to make it ready for the lathe.

Using the roughing gouge to shape the cylinder. This will become one leg on a little stool.

Jacob Wrestles the Angel

These are images from a new painting I am starting about Jacob when he is wrestling the Angel. This is a very enjoyable stage in painting on canvas- feeling out the forms with yellow ocher, then raw sienna, and burnt sienna. These pictures represent about five hours of work.

Printing An Ornamental Block Print On German Linoleum

The cuting, inking, printing, and proof of an ornamental lino-cut using an oak leaf motif using German brown linoleum. 7 1/2″ x 10″.

Carving Decorative Fans

Carving the decorative fans or sunbursts for the side panels of the alder console. I learned the trick of nailing the panel being worked to a larger board which is then held down with my iron “holdfasts” from Peter Follansbee.
