Gymnocladus dioicus deconstructed at 800 rpm

A more singular post than is normal around here, but I am really into taking these high speed photos of spinning wood and stationary steel precipitating a diaspora of fibers and debris. This is a piece of a Kentucky Coffee Tree being made into a bowl.

Here is a little of that walnut spoon before it was finished.  The black or ebonizing is made by brushing a little bit of vinegar that has iron oxide (rust) dissolved in it.  It reacts with tannic acid in wood and turns black on contact.

A new drawing of Walking Man with some contextual review.  And a traditional tune called The Gobby-O, played by the skin of my teeth on the tenor banjo, with spoons and guitar.

Amidst the bustle, we are celebrating the increase of new life this week.  Two of our does ushered in kidding season in ernest. The first one had quadruplets and the second, triplets.  I’ll spare you the “I’m not kidding” jokes.
